I'm delighted to see that you are interested in some of the wands we have available! Or perhaps you want to know more about the Wanderlust Wand Experience? Or maybe you are just curious about what this whole website is all about, and I would be happy to tell you!
I'm 22 year old and a college student in Georgia. I'm majoring in performing arts and minoring in creative writing, both of which, funnily enough, have very little to do with making wands. I'm a self-taught artist and make no claims about being the best on the market, but I am incredibly proud of the work I have made and can't wait to share it with you!
Before you come after me with torches and pitchforks, LISTEN. For many years, I have had several friends who were in love with the Harry Potter books and movies, including my good friend Sophia (a chaotic Ravenclaw) who tried countless times throughout our time in school together to get me to read the books. Eventually, the only reason I gave for not reading them was that I knew I would fall deeply, hopelessly in love with them.
I was right.
I read the books for the first time in just under two weeks in mid-late May 2021. By June 3rd, I had been to Harry Potter World at Universal, gotten myself a wand, and had fallen deep into the Wizarding World.
Me, beginning my wand-making journey (June 11, 2021)
By June 9th, I had finally stopped crying after watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and began my dizzying dive into the Wizarding World. I did all kinds of research: wizarding fashion, the laws, and functions of the Wizengamot, herbology and its uses in potion brewing, and, best of all, wandlore.
Those who know anything about Harry Potter and Voldemort's wands know that the lore behind their construction is vital to the plot of the story. The wood and core represent specific aspects of a person's character. Some wands are more suited to certain disciplines, while others are picky about the morals of their owners. The aesthetic representation of these wands speaks a lot to their character, so I decided to try my hand at recreating some assigned Pottermore wands.
I first began carving wooden dowels from Michaels and quickly realized what a pain it was. My tools were not sharp, the dowels were not meant to be carved in the way I wanted, and it was very messy and thorny. It was a week after I began designing wands that I hit myself on the back of the head because I should have been using polymer clay the entire time. I have a lot of it around, specifically because I like to keep it with me to fidget with, and I had recently taken a 3D Design class in which we made sculptures, so I still had the tools.
Many, many months of practice later and here we are!
The Wandmaker at work.
In addition to wands, I have created a character fully immersed in the Wizarding World as a full-time wandmaker. Check out her page to learn more about her!
